Go down Rabbit Holes

08/15/2024

Finding the right rabbitholes starts with being willing to go down rabbit holes.

The right curiosity, the right questions, will reveal these rabbit holes.

Without opening your eyes to these things, you can be staring at them and completely miss them.

This all depends on what is taking your mind space at the moment. the most junk that is cluttering you, the less freedom and space you will have to take in new things.

Sometimes this jar will come from talking to people.

Sometimes it will come from going to a serendiptious meet up and talking to someone.

Sometimes it means you have a particularly vexing problem and you do the Google and search the forums, the Reddits ad Twtitter for an answer.

It may mean attracting or befriending curious people who live on the fringes.

It means reading wide and far.

As an eamle, back in 2014, I was wondering what to do in terms of avoiding being exposed to another GFC, and I wanted to take money out of the stock market which at the time and incorrectly thought was over inflated.

So I started to look into Gold.

But I didn't look harder. I started to ask whether Gold really was a good hedge against things going down and bad, what did Warren Buffet think.

But I didn't uncover bitcoin.

I even started reading Lyn Alden who is a bitcoin maxi, but she never mentioned it on her website!

I was dancing around this idea of Bitcoin for along while even as I would walk by. Coinbase's building, and dheard about it since its inception .

But I didn't see it. Ididn't have the right level of curiosity.

What is it?
Can I try it?
What does it mean?
Why are toher people interested in it?
And in the case of Bitcoin, to really dig into the white paper.

And to find people on Redit or other forums.

I think forums have become one of the most interesting concepts available int he world, and there is likely never going to be another disruptive force that starts so small and becomes a global movement as Bitcoin again.

But people have been writing about it and talking about it, and that was on me for not being willing to dive into rabbit holes.

For my kids, I want them to be curious about the world.

Curious about people.

Curious about new ideas.

And have just enough courage to go down the right rabbit holes for them.
